Dr. Lucas Volini – DMFT, LMFT
Mental Health Professional
Dr. Volini is a Marriage and Family Therapist providing individual, couple, and family therapy. He takes an experiential approach to therapy that fluidly adapts to each client’s particular needs while maintaining focus on building a trusting and supportive relationship. Dr. Volini’s clinical work pays special attention to cultivating experiences of meaning and purpose surrounding the client’s cultural worldview. In Dr. Volini’s experience, growth and change occur as individuals become more of who they are through authentic self-expression. Accordingly, therapy provides a space for individuals and relational systems to identify fears, heal unresolved wounds, and strengthen relationships—all of which contribute to generating a fulfilling, meaningful life.
Dr. Volini specializes in working with individuals ages 15 and older struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, meaninglessness, and those looking to improve overall well-being while generating a deeper understanding of themselves and the world. Dr. Volini also works intensively with couples and families experiencing relational disconnection or conflict, with a special interest in seeing family systems with adult children.
Dr. Volini is currently appointed as an Assistant Professor and core faculty member in the marriage and family therapy training program at St. Cloud State University. As part of his scholarly activity, he continues to advance his development of Global Family Therapy, an emerging approach to individual, couple, and family therapy that focuses on the interactional dynamics of cultural worldviews and self-esteem. He is published in peer-reviewed academic journals, has authored a study guide preparing professionals to pass the national licensing exam in marriage and family therapy, and regularly presents his research at professional associations and community organizations both locally and nationally.
