We are thrilled to announce we will be taking two doctoral interns for the 2017-18 training year! While general information about our training program can be found here, this page provides specific information about our internship.
We are participating in the match this year and will take two doctoral interns for the 2017-18 training year. The internship start date is 8/14/17.
The clinic is in the early stages of developing a Doctoral Internship program. We have initiated the process of becoming a member of APPIC and are being mentored by an APA-accredited site. Although we are not yet APPIC listed or APA accredited, we plan to participate in the match as a non-APPIC member for the 2017-18 training year and take two Doctoral Interns to start 8/15/17.

Training Program Mission Statement
The mission of the training program is to expand access to organized, applied Family Psychology specialty training while delivering clinically-excellent, contextually-informed psychological services to the underserved in a sustainable, socially-just manner.
Requirements for Application
Applicants for Doctoral Internship are considered from APA-accredited academic institutions and must be cleared for internship by their program prior to the start of internship. All applicants must submit an APPI and participate in the APPIC Match.
General Incoming Trainee Expectations
Incoming Interns are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Have knowledge in family systems theory, developmental psychology and psychopathology
- Understand ethical issues and their application to professional practice
- Meet readiness expectations based on identified program criteria
- Have exposure to and knowledge of basic interviewing techniques
- Have a familiarity with a broad range of psychosocial interventions including evidence-based practice and empirically supported treatments
- Have exposure to and knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and nosology
- Have basic communication and counseling skills
- Have experience in consultation, outreach, and working in multidisciplinary teams
- Understand program evaluation, research design, and statistics
- Have general exposure to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems and trauma
- Have exposure and training experiences that highlight a) the range of problems children present with in outpatient clinical settings and b) a range of therapeutic modalities including individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy and assessment
- Exposure to various systems of care
- Exposure and training in the integration of theory, research, and clinical practice including trauma-informed care and evidence-based practice
- Demonstrate sensitivity, responsiveness, respect, and appreciation for issues of diversity
- An expressed interest in developing competencies in Couple and Family Psychology
Trainee Stipend & Benefits
The stipend for Doctoral Interns in 2017-18 $20,000. Doctoral Interns receive two weeks of paid time off, access to employer-sponsored group medical and dental insurance, short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance, life insurance, 7 paid holidays, and a continuing education allowance. Doctoral Interns receive malpractice insurance via the clinic’s policy but are encouraged to carry their own additional policy.
Application materials are due to the Training Director by 12/23/16. Incomplete materials will not be accepted. Application materials should be sent via the APPIC AAPI online by the application deadline to be considered for interviews in December 2016 and early January 2017. Application materials include the AAPI and a redacted clinical writing sample. Note: All doctoral internship offers are contingent upon successful completion of reference checks, I9, and background checks including Minnesota Statute 148.01 “Minnesota Sexual Exploitation Act.” This statute requires Lorenz Clinic contact employers from at least the last five years to determine whether any sexual exploitation of clients has occurred. Applicants who do not successfully pass these background checks will be dismissed from the placement.
