Barrett Lloyd – BA
Practicum Student
Barrett Lloyd is a graduate student in the Counselor Education program at the University of Minnesota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Clinical Counseling emphasis from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Prior to coming to Lorenz Clinic, Barrett worked as a Residential Youth Counselor at Children’s Home Society of South Dakota, where she supported children and adolescents who had experienced trauma, abuse, and significant emotional or behavioral challenges. Through this role, she developed strong therapeutic relationships grounded in trust and empathy while utilizing co-regulation strategies and creative problem-solving skills to meet the unique needs of each child. Barrett also has valuable experience in working with adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities pursuing post-secondary education.
Barrett works with individuals in all stages of life experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression, life transitions, distress tolerance, and identity development. Barrett’s counseling approach is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She values creating a space where clients can explore their experiences openly, develop greater awareness and self-understanding, and make choices that move them toward a life that feels authentic and meaningful.
