Desiree Hartman – MSW, LGSW

Desi (she/her) received her Master of Social Work from Boston University School of Social Work, where she was awarded the Faculty Award for Excellence in Social Work Practice. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Global Health from Colorado College.
Desi has experience working with children, families, and adults navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and the compounding effects of systemic, racial, and immigration-related oppression. She has a particular passion for working with young children and their caregivers. Prior to joining Lorenz, Desi provided dyadic psychotherapy at Boston Medical Center’s Child Witness to Violence Project and counseling to asylum seekers and human trafficking survivors at Boston University Law’s Immigrants’ Rights Program.
Desi approaches therapy through an attachment-based, trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive, and social justice lens, drawing on play therapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and somatic and mindfulness-based approaches. She weaves together nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and a deep curiosity about each client’s cultural strengths and story. Desi believes deeply in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for healing, and works to create spaces where clients feel safe, seen, and met with dignity.
