Emily Groteboer-Distad – MA, LPCC
Mental Health Professional
Emily understands that a safe, comfortable and non-judgemental environment is important for self exploration and healing. Emily has a niche for creating this space with her clients through a ‘down to earth’ style that she brings to each session. Emily believes in honest and direct communication and uses a strength-based approach to support her clients in therapy. Emily meets people where they are and often says “We are in your car and you control the gas and the break. My role is to help with navigation”.
Emily is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. Emily has extensive clinical experience working with adults who suffer from symptoms of PTSD due to childhood abuse/neglect, sexual assault, combat and other complex traumatic life events. Emily was trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) under Dr. Tracey Lichner (appointed by Dr. Edna Foa). Emily is also certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) through the Strong Star Training Initiative. She is trained in Exposure and Ritual Prevention (ExRP) for treatment of OCD and other anxiety disorders. Emily has worked with the Department of Defense Air Force Special Operations Command, to support active-duty members and their families, through the challenges of deployment and other life transitions.
Emily continues to provide individual psychotherapy to adolescents and adults.
