Lu Ann Weiss – MA
Lu Ann Weiss (she/her) received her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from St. Thomas University. She is currently pursuing her PsyD in Counseling Psychology at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
Having grown up on a midwestern farm, Lu Ann is interested in and currently conducting research on attitudes toward rural mental health resources. She has been a volunteer with the Parent Teacher Organization, Destination Imagination, and organized a Somali Tea mother’s group within her local school district. She is also a current member of the APA and MPA.
Before coming to Lorenz Clinic, Lu Ann provided day treatment for preschool-aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She has also conducted group and individual therapy for students in a college counseling office. Most recently, she administered assessments for school-aged children with learning disorders, ASD, ADHD, and emotional disorders including but not limited to trauma. She recommended school accommodations and additional therapies based on a child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and diagnoses.
Lu Ann uses person-centered therapy that may integrate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, or Play Therapy. In order to fully understand an individual’s experience, Lu Ann is attentive to the client’s environment, ranging from school and home life to broad systems of culture and laws.
