Medical Assistant

  • Job Title: Medical Assistant
  • Direct Supervisor: Administrative Services Manager (ASM)
  • Compensation: $18 - $22 / hr
  • Location: Chaska, MN

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will provide support in the following areas:

• Leadership & Development
o Collaboratively working with ASM to carry out development and strategic goals
o Providing insight to ASM regarding process improvement
o Serve as a cultural leader within the clinic space
o In all actions, embodying and modeling spirit of social justice and collegiality

• Administrative
o Preparing new patient paperwork
o Organizing clipboards for new patients
o Organizing patient paperwork (e.g., copying, faxing, filing, etc.)
o Keeping form and supply inventory and communicating needs to purchasing
o Making general site repairs (e.g., changing light bulbs, etc.)
o Tidying the clinic regularly (e.g., trash, dishes, etc.)
o Monitoring vendor services (e.g., water levels, shred box, etc.)
o Sending, receiving, and distributing correspondence as directed (e.g., mail, faxes, etc.)
o Retrieving mail & distributing appropriately
o Taking credit card payments and other payments
o Providing a neat, professional first-impression to all clinic visitors

• Patient Coordination
o Scheduling new and existing patients
o Maintaining clinic schedules as requested
o Managing client caseloads for assigned providers
o Patient check-in and check-out
o Handling of sensitive and confidential information
o Offering clients refreshments
o Scoring and filing outcomes measures with Department of Health
o Assist and support psychiatrist with patient examinations, treatments, and/or procedures including but not limited to
▪ obtaining vital signs including blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, temperature
checks, and urine testing if needed
▪ administering injections
▪ recording patient’s medical history and other relevant data
o Prepare examination areas and patients for examination, procedure, or treatment by
o Coordinate patient care to allow for maximal communication between providers and
patient access to needed supports
o Initiate referrals to internal team members for psychotherapy, psychological testing, or
other services
o Receive, return, and triage calls and messages left by clients and forward vital information
to psychiatric providers
o Fax/Phone/Email/E-prescribe medication prescriptions and refills per the providers’
orders and work with insurance companies to obtain prior authorization as needed

• Staff Support
o Provide administrative assistance to psychiatric providers
o Other duties as assigned

o Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Medical Assistant, or Certified Nursing Assistant from an
accredited school
o High School Diploma or GED
o Experience assisting psychiatrists or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, or experience
with the mental health specialty (strongly preferred)
o Clean criminal background as required by law

o Trustworthiness in handling sensitive information (with special preference given to candidates
with HIPAA compliance knowledge and training)
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
o Reliable transportation with the ability to travel to any of our clinic locations
o Reliable and dependable attendance
o Schedule flexibility as needed
o Ability to sit for long periods of time
o Ability to operate computer software for 90% of the job
o Ability to learn and use computer software
