Mental Health Technician

The Mental Health Technician assists a team of therapists in the Lorenz Clinic Preschool Day Treatment Program. The Preschool Day Treatment Program serves children ages 3-7 in a therapeutic group setting to support emotional and social development, and improve behavioral functioning.

The Position

The Mental Health Technician assists a team of therapists in the Lorenz Clinic Preschool Day Treatment Program. The Preschool Day Treatment Program serves children ages 3-7 in a therapeutic group setting to support emotional and social development, and improve behavioral functioning. Lorenz Clinic has openings for two part-time Mental Health Technicians at our Rosemount location, as well as an opening for one full-time Mental Health Technician at our Chaska location.

Lorenz Clinic is known for its distinctive approach to child and family psychology that integrates developmental, systemic, experiential, and trauma-informed models. Our clinic realizes the distinctive role relationally-focused child and family providers have within the mental health profession. With four locations located on the outer edge of the metro area, the clinic works to expand access to mental healthcare services for all in need. The Mental Health Technician position is not part of Lorenz Clinic’s formal training program; post-degree candidates on a mental health licensure track are encouraged to review the relevant postings within the clinic’s training program.

Job Duties

Job duties include:

  • Support a therapeutic milieu in a preschool day treatment program
  • Follow instruction of clinical staff who are guiding the skill development of children 
  • Assist children in using age-appropriate communication, regulation, and self-help skills in a therapeutic preschool day treatment program
  • Communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of therapists and skills trainers, child’s caregivers, and child
  • Assist in preparing, setting up, and cleaning up activities throughout day treatment sessions
  • Assist with daily living skills such as toileting, dressing, hand washing, eating, etc
  • Support a safe milieu in coordination with clinical staff who de-escalate children  struggling with emotional and behavioral dysregulation
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with staff, patients, and business associates of the Clinic
  • Adhere to additional directives by applicable direct clinical and administrative supervisors
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Introduction to Psychology, Child Psychology, or Early Childhood Education college credits preferred
  • Basic knowledge of child development and experience with young children

Professional Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to provide services to children in Day Treatment program 
  • Evidence of a high level of professionalism within the field
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage and navigate communications through email, voice mail, in-person, or through the mail in a timely and efficient manner 
  • Ability to respect diversity and integrate issues of culture into case conceptualizations
  • Ability to engage with patients who may be ambivalent about treatment 
  • Ability to adapt interventions to patients’ strengths, skills, and developmental levels
  • Commitment to empowering patients to solve their own problems when necessary
  • Ability to intervene decisively to protect patient safety 
  • Ability to comply with clinic documentation standards and best professional practices 
  • Demonstrates perfect interpersonal boundaries with patients and other clinic staff

Other Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Reliable transportation to get to work
  • Ability to be reliable, punctual, and dependable
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Eligible to participate in government programs (is not excluded by the OEG or state)
  • Preference will be given to bilingual candidates
