Alex McLaughlin – MSW, LGSW

Post-Master's Fellow

Alex (they/them) attended Washington University in St. Louis where they earned their Master’s in Social Work. Prior to Wash U., Alex earned a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University.

As a therapist, Alex is passionate about helping people understand and access their strengths, skills and supports, and enjoys being a collaborator through therapy to support individuals with their healing journey. Using a strengths-based, person-centered and relational approach, Alex also incorporates an ecological systems approach to empower clients in understanding how various systems and intersectional identities impact each individual. Alex individualizes each clients’ treatment and incorporates the following modalities as appropriate: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based approaches, and Solution Focused Therapy.

While aiming to be anti-racist, neurodivergent and queer affirming in their practice, Alex is always learning and growing in these areas. Alex has significant passion in working with clients who are Autistic and/or have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), clients who identify as part of 2SlGBTQIA+ community, and clients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In their work, they also enjoy working with children who experience anger and aggression, and clients (of all ages) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, and phobias.
