Dr. Melissa Maas – PsyD, LP
Supervising Child Psychologist
Dr. Maas (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist who earned her Doctor of Psychology degree from Argosy University with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Psychology. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota.With over 17 years of experience as a child psychologist, Dr. Mass has primarily worked in a community mental health setting. This has provided her a breadth of experience including individual and family therapy, day treatment services, crisis intervention, in-home services, and a partial hospitalization program.
The clients that Dr. Maas works with are children, adolescents, young adults, and families who are experiencing a wide array of challenges. She has extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relational conflicts, attention problems, and adjustments to change. She also has additional training in Permanency and Adoption Competency and works well with families impacted by adoption or foster care. Dr. Maas also has experience supervising individuals and programs and providing clinical consultation to community partners.
Dr. Maas is a relationship-based therapist and acknowledges the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients and their family members in order to promote change. In her work, she strives to provide a safe place to explore challenges without judgment. When treating a client, Dr. Maas utilizes an integrative approach and draws from person-centered approaches, developmental psychology, systems theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Dr. Maas emphasizes perspective-taking, assertive communication, and problem-solving in her work and endeavors to build resilience and further cultivate personal strengths. As a therapist, Dr. Maas is highly collaborative i and recognizes that every individual is influenced by their immediate environment, culture, identity, values, and the complex array of relationships and expectations they are balancing.
